Creating New Pages

  1. To create a new page, first search the site to make sure that the page doesn't exist already. help with searching
  2. If it is not already on the site, click on the "create this page" link that will show in the main window (see example to the right).
    1. Navigate to the Main Page.
    2. Choose the appropriate category based on your article's content. If there are no appropriate categories, use Miscellaneous. If appropriate, the ProWiki Sysop will retroactively add a category for your article and will move it to the correct place within the wiki.
    3. Select the "edit" tab at the top.
    4. Type the title of your article in the body. Please use "title case," that is, capitalize the first letter of each word in the title unless it is an article or a preposition. Surround the title with [[ ]]. This will create a link to the new page. When the link is created, it will show up in red, indicating that there is no content on the new page.
  3. Click on the link, and you can begin adding content to the new page.

Formatting Guidelines

  1. Use title case when naming your article (capitalize the first letter of each word in the title unless it is an article or a preposition).
  2. When linking to an external doc, offer a summary of what people will find if they follow the link. For example, if linking to a document on Symantec's web site, write a few sentences that describe what you are linking to directly preceeding the link.
  3. Cross categorize your articles. Use the tag in double brackets [[ ]], with the format Category:YourCategoryHere at the top of each page you create. For example, if you write an article about Eudora settings related to spam filtering, two tags should be at the top of the article, one for Category:Spam Filtering and one for Category:Email.

Uploading Images

To use images in your articles, follow these steps:

  1. Login. You must be logged in, in order to upload images. If you need an account, you may create one at the login window.
  2. Follow the Upload File link from the tools menu on the left.
  3. Click the Browse button to find the image file on your local hard drive that you would like to upload. JPG images under 100K are preferred.
  4. Write a decription of the image in the description field.
  5. Check the box indicating that you are the copyright holder.
  6. Click Upload File button.
  7. Visit Special pages (follow link in tools menu)and then follow Image List link. Confirm that your file uploaded. Make note of exact file name. Case is sensitive.
  8. Incorporate the image into your article by using the image tag surrounded by double brackets [[ ]]. Format is Image:filename.jpg (note: filenames are case sensitive.)
  9. Save page and view.
