2007ClientServerEmail/Outlook 2007 against POP/IMAP
From Provider Wiki
Outlook 2007 w/FacStaff.sas.upenn.edu (SAS- E-Mail) Initial findings after thirty days of testing. Test machine runs Vista Home Premium (WinVHP)and Office 2007 Enterprise Edition (O2k7EE).
Connectivity is very good, but Outlook tries to synchronize the contents of every folder in the IMAP list. This was very time consuming in my case, and could prove to be problematic for users with massive IMAP directories. Options exist to synchronize only the inbox after initial setup and configuration. The synchronizing speed is much quicker than it was in Outlook 2003.
LDAP functionality is not compatible with the Penn directory. I am not that familiar with Vista's registry yet, and have not tried the WinXP/Outlook 2003 registry hack to enable LDAP lookups. More input would be great regarding that fix. WinVHP does not have a full backup capability so potentially deadly modifications will have to wait until a full backup strategy has been worked out.
There is no automatic purge option for deleted or moved messages. According to Microsoft, this is how Outlook was written and can be made more convenient by placing the purge button on the tool bar. I think that feature, or lack thereof stinks and will most-likely result in user complaints. Unless the users are already using Outlook.
