If users wish to retain copies of any files currently residing on Pobox, they are encouraged to use an FTP client to download them to a local machine. The instructions below assume that the user owns the account, or is listed in the .k5login file for the account in question.
Mac OSX
Fetch
- Launch Fetch
- Choose File-->New Connection if the New Connection window does not automatically appear
- For Hostname, use pobox.upenn.edu
- For Username, use your PennKey
- Connect using FTP with GSSAPI
- Click Connect
- If you don't already have a Kerberos ticket, a Kerberos window will prompt you for your PennKey and Password
- Once you have a valid ticket, you should see a list of all your Pobox files and folders in the main window.
In order to save your files to a specified location, you will need to change the preferences in Fetch:
- Open Fetch-->Preferences and select the Download tab
- In the Save Downloaded Files To dropdown, select your preferred download location.
- Close the Preferences window
You can now select the files and/or folders you wish to back up. Press the Get button, and the items you have selected will download to your specified location.
Windows XP and Vista
FileZilla
- Launch Kerberos for Windows (or your currently installed Kerberos client) and obtain a new Kerberos ticket if you don't already have one
- Launch FileZilla
- Open File-->Site Manager
- Click New Site, and name it Pobox
- Under Site Details on the right, enter the following information, leaving all other information set to the defaults:
- Host: pobox.upenn.edu
- Server Type: FTP
- Logontype: Anonymous
- NOTE: If you are backing up a site that is not yours, but you are listed in the .k5login file, select Normal, and enter the logon name of the site you are accessing under User
- Click Save and Exit
You should now be able to connect to your Pobox account, and select the files you wish to download to your local machine. You may get a message about accepting a signature for Pobox. Click the Accept and Save button if this happens.
