Configuring Eudora 7.0 for Authenticated LDAP
From Provider Wiki
I have installed Eudora 7.0 for MS Windowsâ„¢ (quite inadvertently on top of Eudora 6.2 -Not Recommended) and was able to get it to authenticate to the LDAP server. I used most of the settings from my Thunderbird (v 1.0.7) configuration including the port number and search string. There are fields in the Configuration dialog box for name and password for authentication. Since Eudora asks for kerberos principal upon LDAP inquiry, I left the password field blank. I also was able to use the university's site-license registration code from ver. 6.2 for "Paid" mode thus avoiding advertising and to have use of all the features. (Note: Windows version registration numbers only, not Macintosh!!) Since I'm not a devoted Eudora user I can't vouch for the availability of the full feature set.
My hybrid installation was interesting. Since both versions used the same data folder in my Documents and Settings folder and since ver 7.0 authenticated fine I can conclude that my configuration settings were correct . I was able to go into Eudora 6.2 and see where the authenticated LDAP fails.
My observations also include the fact that addressing a message in Eudora doesn't query the LDAP server either authenticated or unauthenticated. Address book nicknames *do* auto complete for drafting messages. Looks like you need to query the LDAP server from address book window and add selected results to the address book (from "Make Address Book Entry... from Special menu) for desired/frequent addresses that you want autocompleted.
