Entourage LDAP configuration

In order to access Penn's LDAP directory for user contact information in Microsoft Entourage 2004 and Mac OS 10.4.x, the following configuration needs to be set in Entourage's Address Book.

Configuration
To create a new directory, go to Entourage --> Account Settings
Click on the Directory Service tab, then click New.
- An Edit Account window appears.
Account Settings
In the Edit Account window, click on the Account Settings tab, and enter the following information:
- Account name: Penn Online Directory
- LDAP server: directory.upenn.edu
- This server requires me to log in: Checked
- Account ID: uid=your PennKey, ou=PennPeople, dc=upenn, dc=edu
- Password: your PennKey password
- Note: it is up to you whether or not you would like to store your password
Click on the advanced options button, and make sure that the SSL checkbox is checked. Leave the default port as it is (636)
Options
Click on the Options tab, and fill in the information as shown:
Search base: ou=PennPeople, dc=upenn, dc=edu
Click OK to save your settings.
Additional Notes
There are a few things to be aware of:
- Entourage will attempt to auto-complete email addresses entered from the online directory. Querying the directory may take 5-10 seconds before possible email addresses are shown.
- When searching for a person in the directory, be aware that "Name starts with" will search the directory beginning with first name.
- For best results when searching the directory, use the "E-mail address starts with" dropdown selection.
