Contents

Windows

Encouraged

Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 connected to ISC Exchange using the Exchange protocols for email, calendaring, and contacts.

This gives the complete, fully integrated Exchange experience. The best of all experiences is with Outlook 2007, but Outlook 2003 remains capable.

Outlook Web Access connected to ISC Exchange using a web browser for email, calendaring, and contacts.

Outlook Web Access, which runs only in Internet Explorer 6.0 or Internet Explorer 7.0, gives an experience very close to that of the Outlook 2007 client.

Acceptable

Thunderbird connected to ISC Exchange using the IMAP/POP protocols for email while using Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 connected using the Exchange protocols for calendaring (and perhaps contacts).

This provides an environment similar to the current POBOX Classic/Meeting Maker environment and may be most comfortable for some users. However, it does not leverage many of the capabilities of a fully integrated Exchange environment.

Outlook Web Access Light connected to ISC Exchange using a web browser for email, calendaring, and contacts.

Outlook Web Access Light, which runs on any modern web browser, offers an acceptable interface to Exchange, but is not as full-featured as Outlook Web Access.

Discouraged for technical reasons

Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 connected to ISC Exchange using the Exchange protocols for calendaring (and perhaps contacts) while using IMAP/POP connected to POBOX Classic or ISC Exchange for email.

ISC has no confidence that the Outlook/Exchange combination (or the user) will be able to effectively parse the different datastreams. If the user wishes to continue to IMAP/POP for email, ISC strongly suggests using another client, such as Thunderbird, for IMAP/POP email.

Discouraged for usage reasons

Mac OS

Encouraged

Entourage 2004 connected to ISC Exchange using the Exchange protocols for email, calendaring, and contacts.

This gives the best and most integrated Exchange experience currently available for the Mac OS.

Acceptable

Apple Mail or Thunderbird connected to ISC Exchange using the IMAP/POP protocols for email while using Entourage 2004 connected using the Exchange protocols for calendaring (and perhaps contacts).

This provides an environment similar to the current POBOX Classic/Meeting Maker environment and may be most comfortable for some users. However, it does not leverage many of the capabilities of a fully integrated Exchange environment.
