Installing Palm Desktop and Meeting Maker Conduits for non-Administrator Windows 2000/XP users

These instructions are for Windows 2000/XP Palm users as there are particular situations to consider that are not applicable for Macintosh OS users.

Note: Installing on a Windows computer with multiple users is problematic. Watch this page for additional information as we come across it.

  1. Launch Palm Desktop
  2. Perform a Hotsync operation, still logged in as a local administrator
  3. Run the Meeting Maker installer. Because the Palm software is installed, Meeting Maker will prompt to install the three conduits (todo, datebook, contacts)
  4. After the Meeting Maker installation completes, launch Meeting Maker to confirm connection.
  5. Configure the Meeting Maker conduits for the user and server in use.
    1. Select Custom from the Hotsynch Manager
    2. Locate the Meeting Maker conduits (meetingmaker DateBook, meetingmaker Address, meetingmaker ToDo)
    3. Select one of the Meeting Maker conduits and click on Change.
    4. Enter the Meeting Maker settings as follows:
      1. Login Name = the username for the individual synching with Meeting Maker
      2. Password = the password for that account
      3. Server = the Meeting Maker name of the server (not DNS or IP address). For example, the mmxp.upenn.edu server is “MMXP Server”
        1. Conduit Settings (e.g., Date Book) = (from the Palm site)
        2. Synchronize the Files: Updates and synchronizes the data on both your handheld and your desktop computer, using the most current information as the standard. Most people use this setting for day-to-day HotSync operations.
        3. Desktop Overwrites Handheld: Uses the information on your desktop computer to replace any information on your handheld. Typically, this option is used in restoring lost information to a handheld.
        4. Handheld Overwrites Desktop: Uses the information on your handheld to replace any information on your desktop.
        5. Do Nothing: Does not synchronize or replace any data on either the handheld or desktop computer.
      4. TimeZone = USA Eastern
      5. Synchronization Range = set the number of days before and after today to synchronize
  6. Perform a Hotsync operation, still logged in as a local administrator
  7. At this point, the temporarily promoted user can now be downgraded to their previous level.
  8. Reboot the computer, log in as the user and attempt a Hotsync operation.
