Precision M90 Ethernet Issues
From Provider Notes
Many modern laptops running Windows XP or Windows Vista include a default power management setting that deactivates the internal ethernet card whenever the AC adapter is not plugged in. When this happens, one will see neither the "Local Area Connection" icon in Network Connections nor the wired Ethernet device in the Device Manager.
To prevent this unwanted behaviour, alter the power management setting by following the instructions below.
- Plug in your AC adapter and connect your ethernet cable to your laptop.
- Click Start --> Control Panel.
- Click Network Connections.
- Right click Local Area Connection and select Properties.
- Click the Configure tab.
- Click the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
- Click OK and close any other open windows to complete the configuration.
