Wired considerations
Setting up Windows Mobile devices that have no cellular connectivity ("wired" devices) is more complicated than smartphones ("wireless" devices).
Windows
There are two separate programs for synchronizing Windows Mobile devices on Windows depending on the operating system version:
Detailed configuration instructions will be forthcoming
Windows XP
Windows XP users should download and install the latest version of Active Sync, currently Active Sync 4.5. Once downloaded and installed, synchronization configuration is straightforward:
- Connect the device to the computer via USB
- ActiveSync should automatically launch with a familiar Windows setup wizard
- Follow the prompts and choose the types of data to be synchronized
Windows Vista
Windows Vista users have the Windows Mobile Device Center included in the operating system. While not necessarily apparent initially, upon connecting a Windows Mobile device, the application will automatically install and configure.
Macintosh
Macintosh OSX users may use The Missing Sync from Markspace software to synchronize Windows Mobile 5 and 6 handhelds with their desktop machine.
Configuration instructions will be forthcoming
Wireless Configurations
For Smartphone configuration settings, please see the instructions on the following two pages, depending on your operating system:
