Symantec AntiVirus Quarantine
From Provider Wiki
This can be used when SAV quarantines either a
Eudora POP Inbox, an IMAP Inbox specified for offline viewing, or a
local mail folder.
Solution: Re-configure NAV/SAV in the following manner: -- keep real-time protection on -- exclude all *.mbx files from the real-time protection -- ensure that the ..\Eudora\Attach folder is *not* excluded from the real-time protection Follow these steps to reconfigure NAV:
- Launch NAV.
- From the Configure menu, choose File System Realtime Protection.
- Ensure that the "Enable file system realtime protection" checkbox is selected.
- Click the "Exclude selected files and folders" checkbox.
- Click the Exclusions button.
- Click the "Check file for exclusion before scanning" checkbox.
- Click Extensions.
- In the first field, type "mbx" and click the Add button.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again to dismiss the NAV window. You have successfully re-configured NAV.
Discussion: When Eudora uses POP mode, it writes all incoming mail to the local In.mbx folder. But it should not be necessary for NAV to scan this file, since one can't launch attachments from it. The re-configuration steps outlined above will ensure that the In.mbx is *not* scanned, while other locations on the hard drive *are* scanned. Since by default, attachments are saved to the Eudora\Attach folder, if a user clicks on an attachment, realtime scanning should be activated and that file will be quarantined if it contains a virus.
IMAP users do not exhibit this problem because NAV can't scan the Inbox on the server. Attachments are downloaded on a by-request basis, being saved to the \Eudora\Attach folder. Realtime scanning is activated when the user actually clicks on the attachment.
