XP error codes

Purpose

This page was created to list XP error codes their common causes and resolution. These codes will be listed in BSODs or in Event viewer.

Codes

000000ea- faulty hardware

000000d0- page fault or may be bad memory or driver

c0000218- hive failure. This will usually require a rebuild. As even if the registry is restored, appliciations may be unstable. To attempt to restore registry follow the steps listed at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307545 and http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how_do_i_repair_a_stop.htm

000000ed- unmountable boot volume. indicates serious files system corruption. Run chkdsk with /f or /r option. If this fails, Bing may be necessary but usually manufacturers diagnostics will indicate a failing drive.

0x80040707- This is actually an installshield error. It indicates a registry error referring to a folder mismatch. See the referred installshield link and then check if these folders actually exist in each account. Including All Users.
